Catskills in April—Signs of Awakening

Updated: Jun 8, 2023

Signs of spring were everywhere during April even in the absence of tree leaves. Without a canopy of leaves, bright light penetrated into the normally shady forests. Streams flowed freely swelled by rain and unencumbered by ice. The mosses, lichens, and evergreen ferns zoomed forth in vibrancy as the temperatures warmed and the rains commenced. Every rock and branch became significant in the simplified landscape. There were beautiful warm, sunny afternoons with dazzling light in the leaf-filled puddles and soft rainy mornings. Towards the middle of the month, the maples dazzled with clouds of tiny red flowers lighting up the whole forest.

Please enjoy this collection of my favorite April photos from this year.
